On a trip

Up Date: Have given up on adding to this post; too much time has passed. On to new things.

Later today I am flying to Chicago to attend and present at the American Education Research Association (AERA). This should be fun as I will see my good friends in Chicago, eat good pizza (and maybe a hotdog), and walk along the most beautiful waterfront in this country. Somethings are just not the same in other parts of the country and my eyes and tastebugs demand to be sated! I will be posting what I learn and photos later this week. I have a new camera that even takes video, so watch out TeacherTube! more soon and I hope you are enjoying the blessings of this season.

The discussion continues: longer days and year-round schools; which will be most effective in raising scores (hopefully actually improving learning). JohnL wonders if we could be more efficient and comments on a Talkback at Teacher Magazine are passionately divided about year-round schools.

Here is how one teacher makes sure that her students have a caring adult in their lives, one who cares that the student finishes high school.

Some of the best and brightest students I have ever taught had parents who were not just dysfunctional; they were dangerous. Conversely, some of the lowest performing students I have seen had parents who were passionately interested in their education.  read more by Renne Moore @ If Not a Village, At Least an Elder

A few new websites and comments

I had some time to look for new websites to add to my lists for classes. I found several new items of interest.

TeacherTube: why should the kids have all the fun? I am so excited to see this website: you must go there to check out Ms. Burke's math raps, videos of classrooms at work, and many tutorials posted by teachers for student use.

Women of Web 2 is not exclusively an education blog, but so much interesting material that teachers can integrate that I recommend it (come, guys, you can go there also!!)

I have more, but need to go start my day. . .lots of meetings today.

Don't try this at home, but WOW!
