It has been a long time since my last post. I have been up to my ears in actitives at the University. Teaching four courses, serving on committees, and being chair of the faculty assembly in my college has kept me busy and out of the malls. But, as always, I love what I am doing --- just regret that age has slowed my down and I can no longer work multiple 14 hours days without being very, very tired. O, sigh! But I am never too tired to read my favorite blogs and have some links to share.
Teach Effectively has a post about the reports on Reading that have just been published by the What Works Clearinghouse. This is worth a read.
In addition, W-W-C has recently published a report on Drop-Out Prevention and another on English Language Learners. These have excellent information for teachers and teacher educators.
I have been sharing this new word processing program, Writely, with my students and want to share here. I first learned of it on Se Hace Camino Al Andar, where Nancy talked about how she uses it. I like that it gives k-12 students access to a free word processor for doing homework and that others can view, give feedback, add to and edit each other's work. Is it wrong to say that it is way cool?
Also have been telling students about del.icio.us. This free Internet service allows users to save websites just like your Favorites list, but it is accessible from any computer anywhere. another way cool?? To see what I have been saving, go to http://del.icio.us/eversr
Guess that is all for today, those 50 assessment assignments are staring at me and need to be graded.
In September my sister, from Portland, OR, visited our parents here in SC. I went over for the weekend. On Friday, Mom & I took Suzanne to visit the Biltmore; her first visit there. It was a great day. We had a wonderful lunch in the Stables and I must say that the Biltmore people were wonderful; so helpful as Mom was using a wheelchair that day. See all my photos by clicking on the photo and while at my Flickr look at the photos of flowers in the greenhouses . They were spectacular!
